Today, The Protestant Council of Rwanda (CPR) on Wednesday launched a Mental Training Course for 30 Women from Musanze, Kayonza and Kigali Districts aimed at helping them develop themselves. This was after training them on Mental Health and as they embarked on a journey of recovery from Trauma. Training in mental health and trauma covers a range of topics including understanding the impact of trauma on individuals and communities, recognizing trauma symptoms, and implementing trauma-informed care principles. These lessons also often address vicarious trauma, self-care strategies, and the importance of creating safe and supportive environments.
Types of Traumas:
Participants learn to differentiate between various forms of trauma, including acute PTSD, complex trauma, developmental trauma, and the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
· Impacts of Trauma:
Training explores how trauma affects individuals’ mental, emotional, and physical well-being, including potential impacts on relationships, behavior, and cognitive function.
· Neurobiology of Trauma:
Understanding the brain’s response to traumatic events, including memory, dissociation, and the impact on the nervous system, is a crucial component. Trauma-Informed Care:
- Core Principles:
Training emphasizes the importance of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment in working with individuals who have experienced trauma.
- Trauma-Informed Practices:
Participants learn how to integrate trauma-informed principles into their work, whether in healthcare, social work, education, or other settings.
- Creating Safe Environments:
Training focuses on strategies to minimize retraumatization and promote healing, including communication techniques, therapeutic approaches, and organizational practices.
