A retreat of the Legal Representatives of the Churches and Associations members of the CPR for the revitalization of their unity and the future of the CPR
From July 15 to 17, 2019, the Legal Representatives of the Member Churches and Associations of the Protestant Council of Rwanda retreated to the Bethany Hotel in Karongi District to discuss various issues concerning the future of the CPR and the Church in its current context. The participation was deemed very strong, important, productive and interesting. The central theme of the retreat is taken from the Gospel according to John, Chapter 17:21: “That they all may be one.”
Under this central theme, which was fundamentally addressed through morning meditations on the Word of God, other presentations were made on the themes of leadership, succession and transfer of powers, the history of the CPR, and the current situation of Protestant education. In addition, other problems were debated in working groups organized to think of saving solutions in accordance with the various current issues that hinder the development of the church.
During the retreat, the participants had the opportunity to be visited by the Governor of the Western Province, who acknowledged and commended the contribution of churches and Christian associations in building the country. For him, the State and the Church must continue to work hand in hand, especially since their objective is identical in that both aim for the well-being and holistic development of the Rwandan people.
Among the major decisions taken, the Legal Representatives of the Member Churches and Associations of the Protestant Council of Rwanda unanimously noted the importance of the latter and committed to promoting their unity while working in synergy to prepare for a better future for their ecclesial communities and Christian associations. The practical and strategic revitalization of the CPR in general and of INKORAMUTIMA radio was also considered very relevant. The participants all recognized that this tool remains very effective in the context of evangelization and can contribute enormously to the promotion of unity and holistic development of the member Churches and Associations of the CPR.
The retreat ended in an atmosphere rooted in the philosophy that unity and synergy will always be the strength of the Churches and Christian Associations that are members of the CPR.
